Client Resources
Fieldstone Equine Clinic is committed to providing our clients with excellent & compassionate care. The foundation of this relationship are the policies and forms found below.
Please reach out with any questions.
Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship Policy
The cornerstone of our relationship with you and your horse.
A valid veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR) is established when Fieldstone Equine Clinic has provided, at a minimum, a routine wellness exam and core vaccinations (rabies, EEE, WEE, tetanus, WNV) for your horse(s) within the previous twelve months and a signed Veterinary Service Agreement is on file. The VCPR can be renewed yearly with a wellness exam and core vaccinations.
Without a VCPR in place, Fieldstone Equine Clinic will not provide emergency veterinary services or give advice, whether in person or via tele-consult.
We suggest establishing a relationship with the primary care veterinarian of your choosing prior to an emergency situation arising.
The VCPR is built on mutual trust, respect, and understanding. Fieldstone Equine Clinic reserves the right to sever the VCPR with a client and their horses at any time when these ideals are not upheld. Medical records will be emailed and the client will no longer be eligible for any veterinary services provided by Fieldstone Equine Clinic.
Payment Policy
Transparency from the start.
Payment in full is due at the time of service whether routine or emergency, without exception. Fieldstone Equine Clinic does not bill, does not provide payment plans, and does not accept CareCredit. We are happy to provide an estimate prior to service.
A credit card must be held on file (credit card authorization form), regardless of whether paying by cash, check, card, or venmo.
A $50 fee will be assessed for all returned checks.
Fieldstone Equine Clinic is a paperless practice. Receipts of your payment will be emailed within 72 hours of your appointment.
Fieldstone Equine Clinic reserves the right to require a deposit prior to attending to routine and emergency appointments. Deposit amount will be determined by the anticipated cost of the appointment and is at the discretion of the attending veterinarian. Deposits will not be less than $500.
Non-payment at the time of service immediately renders a client and their horses ineligible for any future services from Fieldstone Equine Clinic.
Emergency Policy
When the inevitable occurs, we are here to help.
Fieldstone Equine Clinic collaborates with area colleagues to provide 24/7 emergency coverage to current clients (those with a valid VCPR). The veterinarian assisting you and your horse during an emergency may not be your primary care veterinarian. We have the utmost confidence in our colleagues to provide excellent after-hours care and would trust them with our own horses without question. We encourage you to do the same.
Current clients of Fieldstone Equine Clinic and of the veterinary practices with whom we collaborate are eligible for emergency services. For those without a primary care veterinarian, or those who are clients of practices outside of our emergency group, it is at the discretion of the Doctor on call as to whether your horse will be attended to. We must remain available to our current clients. As such, we strongly encourage developing a relationship and establishing a VCPR with the primary care veterinarian of your choosing prior to an emergency situation arising.
There may be occasions when the on-call veterinarian is only available to see emergencies at the office of Fieldstone Equine Clinic: 425 VT 110 Tunbridge, VT. Please be prepared to trailer your horse in such an instance. If you do not own a horse trailer, we strongly suggest partnering with a friend/colleague/trainer who does to ensure that there is a way to transport your horse in case of emergency.
There may be rare occasions when an on-call veterinarian is not able or available to attend to your horse on the farm or at the clinic. In such instances, it will be necessary to transport your horse to the nearest equine veterinary hospital of your choosing. You must call the hospital prior to arriving to ensure they are open, do not assume. If you do not own a horse trailer, we strongly suggest partnering with a friend/colleague/trainer who does to ensure that there is a way to transport your horse in case of emergency.
