Emergency Policy
When the inevitable occurs, we are here to help.
Fieldstone Equine Clinic collaborates with area colleagues to provide 24/7 emergency coverage to current clients (those with a valid Veterinary-Client-Patient-Relationship). The veterinarian assisting you and your horse during an emergency may not be your primary care veterinarian. We have the utmost confidence in our colleagues to provide excellent after-hours care and would trust them with our own horses without question. We encourage you to do the same.
Current clients of Fieldstone Equine Clinic and of the veterinary practices with whom we collaborate are eligible for emergency services. For those without a primary care veterinarian, or those who are clients of practices outside of our emergency group, it is at the discretion of the Doctor on call as to whether your horse will be attended to. We must remain available to our current clients. As such, we strongly encourage developing a relationship and establishing a VCPR with the primary care veterinarian of your choosing prior to an emergency situation arising.
There may be occasions when the on-call veterinarian is only available to see emergencies at the office of Fieldstone Equine Clinic: 425 VT 110 Tunbridge, VT. Please be prepared to trailer your horse in such an instance. If you do not own a horse trailer, we strongly suggest partnering with a friend/colleague/trainer who does to ensure that there is a way to transport your horse in case of this situation.
There may be rare occasions when an on-call veterinarian is not able or available to attend to your horse on the farm or at the clinic. In such instances, it will be necessary to transport your horse to the nearest equine veterinary hospital. You must call the hospital prior to arriving to ensure they are open, do not assume. If you do not own a horse trailer, we strongly suggest partnering with a friend/colleague/trainer who does to ensure that there is a way to transport your horse in case of this situation.
